Bermuda's Men's team has been knocked out of the XXVI Pan American Squash Championship after a tough 2-0 defeat to El Salvador, a result compounded by an injury to player Taylor Carrick.
The team competition got off to a thrilling start in Rio de Janeiro with a five-set battle between Bermuda's Noah Browne and El Salvador's Emerson Rodrigo Rivera. In a match that lasted 47 minutes, Browne fought back from a game down to take a 2-1 lead, but Rivera ultimately clawed his way back, winning the final two games in a back-and-forth battle, 13-11, to claim the point.
The second match saw Taylor Carrick take to the court, but his game was halted prematurely. He was already trailing 2-0 in games and was down 8-2 in the third when he suffered an arm injury and was unable to continue.
With Carrick forced to retire, the match was awarded to El Salvador, ending Bermuda's journey in the men's team competition. The result is a disappointing end for a team that has shown flashes of brilliance in the tournament.
