Adam Hall and his Biloxi Shuckers' teammates' recent run of bringing the tying run to the plate late in games continued on Friday night, but once again, they ultimately fell short, losing 6-2 to the Birmingham Barons at Keesler Federal Park. This marks the fourth consecutive game where the Shuckers have threatened a comeback in the seventh inning or later, highlighting their persistent fight, despite the results.
The Shuckers found themselves trailing for much of the contest. Their designated hitter, Hall, endured a frustrating start at the plate, grounding out in the second inning and striking out in the fifth.
However, the seventh inning offered a glimmer of hope for Biloxi. Hall was hit by a pitch, advancing Matthew Wood and Darrien Miller to third and second respectively, but the threat was ultimately extinguished, leaving all three runners stranded.
The ninth inning saw the Shuckers finally break through. Hall singled on a ground ball, and a subsequent line drive double from Garrett Spain moved Hall to third. Jheremy Vargas then delivered a crucial line drive single to right field, bringing both Hall and Spain home to cut into the Barons' lead. Despite the late rally, time ran out for the Shuckers.
The series continues on Saturday night at Keesler Federal Park, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. K.C. Hunt is set to start for the Shuckers, while Riley Bowens will take the mound for the Barons. Biloxi will be hoping to turn their late-game threats into a decisive victory.
