The Gwinnett Stripers ended their eight-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, rallying for a 4-3 victory over Adam Hall and his Nashville Sounds teammates at Coolray Field. A four-run sixth inning proved to be the turning point for the Stripers, highlighted by Matthew Batten’s crucial two-run double. Veteran closer Craig Kimbrel then shut the door in the ninth, earning his first save for Gwinnett since 2010.
Despite the defeat, Hall had a solid night at the plate for the Sounds, going 1 for 3 and driving in one of their three runs.
Nashville had built a comfortable 3-0 lead through the first four innings, scoring a run in the first, second, and fourth. Hall was instrumental in extending that lead in the second inning. With Anthony Seigler on base, the Bermudian outfielder blasted a line drive to right field for his first triple of the season, bringing Seigler home and putting the Sounds up by two.
However, Gwinnett mounted their comeback in the sixth inning, erasing the Sounds' lead with a four-run burst. Batten's two-run double was the key blow, giving the Stripers the advantage they would not relinquish. Despite Hall's earlier contribution, the Nashville offense went quiet in the latter stages, unable to respond to Gwinnett's rally.
