Digicel has announced that it will extend its support of Micah Franklin, a Bermudian squash athlete, into 2013.
Franklin is a former winner of the Digicel National Junior Squash Championships, an event that Digicel Bermuda has proudly sponsored since 2010. Digicel Bermuda began sponsoring Franklin in December 2011, when Franklin was just beginning his professional squash career. With the $8,000 sponsorship from Digicel, Franklin was able to attend the National Squash Academy Training Program in Canada and compete in various international tournaments. Between March and October of this year, he was able to improve his world ranking from 379 to 206.
“It is truly incredible,” stated Digicel Bermuda Sales Director, Shane McDonnell, “to see this young athlete improve so drastically in such a short period of time. We at Digicel are honored to continue providing sponsorship support to Franklin as he approaches the impressive milestone of being one of the top 200 squash players in the world.”
Franklin stated, “I want to thank Digicel for being a huge factor in my improvement by giving me the opportunity to travel around the world competing in professional squash events.”
