Bermuda are tonight celebrating after winning the 2010 National Lotteries Authority Caribbean Squash Championships (CASA) Team Champions following their 4 – 1 win over St. Lucia in St. Vincent
First on was 17 yr old Chris Stout against Kevin Bailey. Stout played his usual attacking game making very few mistakes and showing unbelievable commitment (diving for countless balls, getting back up and playing on) he outplayed the more experienced Bailey to give Bermuda a great start.
Next up was the experienced Nick Kyme against Joe Chapman. Kyme took the first comfortably but as the match went on started to look physically drained in the hot, humid conditions. Despite supreme effort he was unable to fight back and eventually went down 3 - 1.
Third and crucial match was Patrick Foster and Kniepp. Kneipp showed his class in taking the 1st game although the long rallies took their toll eventually with Foster starting to make an impression in the 2nd set. Mid way through that set after an exchange of short shots at the front of the court Kniepp limped off the court with a suspected muscle tear and was unable to continue to give Bermuda the 2 - 1 lead.
Micah Franklin was next to go on against Kevin Hannaway. Hannaway made Franklin work hard for the victory although Franklin was simply too good all round the court and romped to victory to seal Bermuda’s win.
All that was left to finish off a brilliant week was another great performance from Robert Maycock in beating the experienced James Bentick 3 - 1 to give Bermuda another 4-1 win and confirm us as 2010 Men’s CASA Team Champions.
