The Team Event of the 2010 National Lotteries Authority Caribbean Squash Championships (CASA) will soon get underway in St. Vincent. In the Men’s Singles, Bermuda had Patrick Foster finish 3rd, Nick Kyme finished 5th, while Robert Maycock went down in the Men’s Open Plate Final.
Foster defeated Shawn Simpson from Barbados in straight sets, Foster never let his opponent get more than 6 points in any of the game winning 11 - 6, 11 - 2, 11 - 5 in the Men’s Open 3rd Place Play-off, while in the Men's Open 5th Place Play-off Kyme defeated Cameron Stafford from Cayman Islands in five sets. Kyme won the first two sets 11 – 7 and 11 - 5, but Stafford fought back to win the next two sets 11 – 3, 11 – 6, however Kyme would prevail winning the fifth and final set 11 - 5.
In the Men’s Open Plate Final, Maycock was facing Bruce Burrowes from Jamaica, Burrowes had defeated Micah Franklin in the Semi-Final in five sets and was taken the same distance by Maycock in the Final.
Burrowes won the first set 15 – 13, but Maycock fought back to win the second set 11 – 9. Maycock then took the lead when he won the third set 11 – 6, but Burrowes won the next two sets 11 – 5 and then 11 – 8 to win the title.
In the team event Bermuda is grouped with Jamaica and Trinidad. Top 2 in the group go through to semis.
The Bermuda team members are all fit, injury free and all playing well after the individual matches.
