Christopher Remains Undefeated in England

After the fight, Christopher told www.islandstats.com, “I’m happy with my performance against a tough and very durable opponent.

Minister of Sport Promotes Bermuda on Boston Radio

“Bermuda is built on hospitality. We are proud of the uniqueness of our heritage. And we boast an array of cultural and sporting events which are all aimed at enticing visitors to our shores,” said the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, Owen Darrell, during an appearance as a guest on The Greg Hill Show Talk Radio.

The program was broadcast live from the Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa to audiences in Boston and greater New England. Minister Darrell spoke with host Greg Hill and co-hosts Jermaine Wiggins and Courtney Cox to promote Bermuda as a year-round golf destination and a popular location for world-class sporting events.

During his interview, the Minister championed the island as a prime destination for golfer’s adding, “Bermuda boasts a temperate, pleasant year-round climate, it’s easily accessible with direct service and proximity to the Tristate Area , and it allows guests to leave in the morning and book an afternoon tee time.”

The Minister also shared that Bermuda and Boston have built a strong connection with close partnerships from a healthcare and tourism standpoint. He also highlighted for the listening audience that Bermuda has a number if exciting upcoming events including:

• Bermuda Day: Celebrating Bermuda’s heritage with a festive parade with floats and cultural performances on May 24th.
• Bermuda Heroes Weekend and Bermuda Carnival: A vibrant celebration featuring a colorful parade of the bands on June 12th – 17th.
• The Annual Cup Match Classic: A two-day cricket festival celebrating Emancipation Day and Mary Prince Day on August 1st and 2nd.
• Butterfield Bermuda Championship: An annual PGA Tour golf event held at the world-class Port Royal Golf Course in the fall.

Minister Darrell concluded, “We continue our mission to attract visitors to our shores to experience quality sport and cultural events in Bermuda. I was grateful to be invited to The Greg Hill Classic golf event this week at the Tucker’s Point Golf Club to share our wonderful island home. BermudAir & BOA Announce Partnership

BermudAir and the Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA) announced a new partnership, with BermudAir becoming the Official Airline of Team Bermuda.

A spokesperson said, “Under the arrangement BermudAir will provide support for BOA in advance of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris this July and beyond. For both entities, this represents a new level of community engagement as a multi-year agreement spanning the next four years.

“As the Official Airline of Team Bermuda, BermudAir’s support will include travel arrangements and helping to promote Team Bermuda and BOA to other potential sponsors and the public in various ways. That promotion will include displaying the Team Bermuda logo on BermudAir aircraft.”

“We’re very proud to support the BOA and their work with local athletes who are committed to earning their place on Team Bermuda,” said Adam Scott, Founder and CEO of BermudAir. “The athletes working to represent Bermuda at the pinnacle of global sport have taken up a significant mission. The level of grit, determination and dedication required to reach the Olympics is awe-inspiring. From what we’ve seen, the BOA is working hard to ensure it can keep helping athletes towards reaching that goal, and in relation to the other sporting events they coordinate, and we’re very happy to support that effort.”

Peter Dunne, President of the BOA said, “This is an exciting development for our athletes and our organization, and certainly the first time that the team has had an opportunity like this. The spokesperson said, “The new partnership was celebrated in a brief ceremony at BermudAir’s offices in Hamilton, which included Adam Scott, Peter Dunne and Branwen Smith-King, BOA’s Secretary General. Also present was athlete Adriana Penruddocke who has qualified for the Paris Olympics and will represent Bermuda in sailing, in the ILCA 6 Dinghy Class. Team Bermuda so far includes Adriana as well as rower Dara Alizadeh. The community is also hoping to see Bermuda’s Olympic Gold Medalist and Triathlon World Champion Dame Flora Duffy defending her title.”

“As anticipation builds towards the Games in Paris, we’re looking forward to celebrating Team Bermuda together with the BOA and the entire community,” Adam Scott added. “Our team will be rooting for Team Bermuda as they represent the island at the world’s biggest sporting event this summer.”

CANOC Joins the Centre for Sport and Human Rights

The Center for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR) has announced that the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees has joined the CSHR multi-stakeholder network as an Engaged Organization working to promote responsible sport.

The Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) comprises National Olympic Committees (NOCs), Commonwealth Games Associations, and governing bodies of national sports organizations including the Bermuda Olympic Association, and works to promote, develop, and protect sport and the Olympic Movement in the Caribbean.

CANOC will work with CSHR's growing network of Engaged Organizations and Advisory Council members to support the development of guidelines and best practices to improve understanding of human rights challenges in sport, including engaging with affected groups to identify risks and understand the needs of their communities. Engaged Organizations participate in CSHR activities and contribute to the growth of the sport and human rights.

"We fully support the Centre's mission to promote a world of responsible sport that fully respects and promotes human rights. We are ready to commit to supporting and demonstrating the practical application of the Sporting Chance Principles and we are committed to the vision, mission, and work of the Centre by working together to address challenges," said CANOC President Keith Joseph.

CSHR CEO Mary Harvey said: We are proud to welcome the Caribbean Association of NOCs to the Centre as an Engaged Organization. Their recent focus on women's empowerment, the elimination of racial discrimination, security, and other areas of social sustainability is very much in line with the work of the Centre and will be invaluable to us and all members of the Centre as we work with them to promote human rights.

The Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees is a regional non-governmental organization comprising NOCs, Commonwealth Games Associations, and governing bodies of national sports organizations, excluding governmental or political entities. Founded in 2003, it aims to celebrate and host the Caribbean Games and to promote and protect sport and the Olympic Movement in the Caribbean through its member organizations.

Launched in June 2018, CSHR works towards a world of sport that fully respects human rights by sharing knowledge, building capacity, and strengthening the accountability of all actors in the sports ecosystem through collective action. The Centre's first patron is Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

2024 Move More Bermuda Senior Games

The Ministry of Health welcomes individuals aged 50 and above to register for the Move More Bermuda Senior Games, a day of athletic fun on Sunday, May 19th, from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center. Compete in a range of Track and Field events, from the 3000m run to the 60m dash, along with the Long Jump, Shot Put, and the Mixed 4x4 Relay. It is free for spectators and there will be live entertainment.

Anyone aged 50 and older can register at register at trackie.com/event/movemorebda
or collect and complete an entry form at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in the Continental Building at 25 Church Street, Hamilton. The fee is $10, and the first 100 people who register will receive a free swag bag. Free Training Sessions with De-Von Bean will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7:15 pm at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center. The registration deadline is Friday, May 17th.

Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, expressed, "This event is part of the Department of Health's 'Move More Bermuda' initiative, designed to emphasize the significance of including more physical activity into our daily routines.

"I urge those aged 50 and above to seize this opportunity for fun and games. Any form of physical activity, no matter how small, contributes to overall health and vitality. I enjoyed the enthusiasm displayed at last year's games. It was exciting; everyone enjoyed themselves, the active participants, and the spectators.”

Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, Tinee Furbert, added, “There is a changing attitude towards aging, with many people becoming more active. The Move More Bermuda Senior Games is a great way to promote healthy and active aging while celebrating seniors' talents and abilities in the community.”

Presented by the Government of Bermuda's Department of Health, in partnership with Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) and other government and private sector organizations, the Move More Bermuda Senior games offer an opportunity for friendly competition.
