Move More Bermuda Track & Field Meet

The 2024 Move More Bermuda Track & Field Meet took place at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center.

Beverly Hayward won the 60-64 Women’s 200 Meter Dash in a time of 36.82, Zina Jones was second in 41.79, and Dorann Simons finished third clocking 1:00.29.

Garwin Phillips won the 50-54 Men’s Shot Put with a top toss of 16.57m, Jerome Richards was second in and Gary Taylor finished third clocking 9.87m.

During the 65-69 Women’s 60 Meter Dash, Julie Richardson clocked a winning time of 9.59, while Florence Sharpe finished second in 10.68.

Clyde Lee won the 70-74 Men’s 3000 Meter Run with a time of 21:22.08, Michael Lambert was second in 24:48.07.

Basden Competes in CIAA Outdoor Championships
Brijette Basden represented Shaw University at the CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Basden would finish 23rd in the Women’s 100m Preliminaries clocking 12.72, with a time of 26.65, Basden finished 28th in the Women’s 200m Preliminaries.

Basden would run the third leg for the Shaw University Women’s 4x100m Relay team which finished 8th clocking a time of 48.46.

Basden would also compete in the Women’s High Jump finishing 12th with a top leap of 1.50m.

BSSF Primary School Inter-School Sports Live 10:00 am

Harrington Sound Primary School were convincing in defending their Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) Primary School Track and Field Championship Title. The Smith’s School was nearly 100 points ahead of their nearest rival school.

Harrington Sound accumulated 321 combined points during the meet. Warwick Academy finished in second with 226.5 points while Saltus Grammar School came in third with 181.5 points.

Three records fell during the final day of competition. Naomi Macguinness broke Two Records in the space of an hour. The Warwick Academy student first broke a 33 year old record in the 800 meters after crossing the line in 2:30.66. The former record holder, Jarita Dill was in attendance and was very gracious in presenting the new record holder with her winning Gold Medal. Macguinness returned to the track in less than an hour to shatter the Randy Benjamin Open Mile with a new time of 5:25.57. Macguinness lowered the former record of 5:49.30 by almost 24 seconds. Aalirah Daniels then broke her own record in the Under 10 Girls 200 meters with a time of 28.59 seconds. The Harrington Sound runner bested her previous record of 29.15 which she set last week in qualifying.

Tamera Smith was named Champion Girl in the Under 9 Girls Division. The Harrington Sound runner won the 200 meters and finished Second in both the 400 and 800 meter events. School mate Kamari Brooks-Gibbons was a double winner after winning the 400 and 800 meters. Harrington Sound wasn’t done collecting points in the division as Rayven Weeks claimed Gold in the 100 meters and captured Silver in the 200 meters. Conor Kane from Saltus Grammar School was crowned Champion Boy in the Under 9 Division after winning Gold in the 400 and 800 meter races while finishing sixth in the 100 meters. A trio of Port Royal Primary athletes finished behind Kane. Shammaah Darko won the 100 and 200 meter races while Ethan Anderson claimed double Bronze in the 400 and 800 meters. Desani Samuels finished second in the 200 meters and third in 100.

Dalton E. Tuckers Yara Muhammad was crowned Champion Girl in the Under 10 Division edging record breaker Daniels by a point. Muhammad captured Gold in the 400 and 800 meters while also finishing third in the 200 meters. Daniels followed up her 200 meter win by also winning the 100 meters and claiming Bronze in the Long Jump. Jordyn Lewis won a collection of Medals after finishing second in the 200 and Long Jump and third in the 100 meters Prospect Primary’s Zavion Trott won both the 200 and 400 meters to go along with a Silver in the 100 meters in winning Under 10 Champion Boy. Elliot Primary’s Gabriel Outerbridge finished second in the 200 meters and cricket ball throw and third in the 100 meters. Harrington Sound’s Kahleef Daley also got on the podium in three events after finishing second in the Long Jump and third in the 400 and 800 meters.

Ava St. Luce collected a Gold Medal haul in winning the Over 10 Girls Champion title. St. Luce on the 100 and 200 meter sprint double. She also collected Gold in the Long Jump and Relay. The Harrington Sound student was also named the Toby Colombe Memorial top performer of the meet. Teammate Zaya Zuill also impressed on the track winning the 400 meters and finishing second in the 200 and 800 meters. Macguinness added Bronze medals in the 400 meters and Cricket Ball Throw.

West End Primary’s Jemani Scott ran his way to the Champion Boy title in the Over 10 Division. Scott won the 200 meters and finished second in the 400 and 800 meters. Mazaii Tucker from Victor Scott was the only double winner in the Division after he placed first in the 100 meters and Long Jump.

Saltus Wins BSSF Middle School Inter-School Sports

Saltus Grammar School successfully defended their title as Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Track and Field Champions.

Saltus won the overall title despite finishing second in both the Overall Girls and Boys Divisions.

Saltus won the championship with 587.50 points with the Whitney Institute coming in second with 554.50 points. Warwick Academy finished a distant third with 316 points.

BHS won the Girls Division with the slimmest margin after finishing a half point ahead of Saltus. BHS finished the meet with 280 points with Saltus finishing on 279.5 followed by Whitney Institute in third with 196.50 points.

Whitney Institute led the charge in the Boys Division with 358 points. Saltus were 50 points back on 308 ahead of Warwick Academy who ended with 195.

The top performer of the day was once again Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert who broke two of his own records in the Over 13 Boys Division. The Warwick Academy student has now broken five records in the last two year. He broke his 200 meter record by one hundredth of a second, crossing the line in 22.53 seconds. He then shaved four hundredth off the 400 meter Final when he stopped the clock at 52.71 seconds.

Sukanya Jobson from Saltus was named the Champion Girl in the Under 12 Girls Division, this after winning Gold in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter races. School mate Leydi Raynor was close behind after winning the 100 meters and Long Jump. Raynor would come second to Alae Rochester from Sandys Secondary Middle School in the 200 meters.

Hasim Ming was named Under 12 Boys Champion Boy after claiming the rare 800 meter and Turbo Javelin double. The Whitney student had broken the Javelin record last week before claiming the 800 meter Gold and 1500 meter Silver at the finals. Adam Barritt finished second in points after winning the sprinting 100 and 200 meter double. The Whitney pair of Paz Lightbourne-Francis and A’Daj O’Brien also scored more than 20 points. Lightbourne-Francis won the 400 meters while finishing third in both the 100 and 200 meters.

Sandys Secondary Middle School had in triple Gold Medalist in Zakhya Scott in the Under 13 Girls Division. Scott was fastest in the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprinting trifecta. Amaya Davis from Saltus Grammar School finished behind Scott on 23 points after winning the Long Jump and finishing second in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200 meters. Whitney Institute’s Riana Robinson was a double winner in the Division winning the 800 and 1500 meter events.

C. Riley Martin won the Under 13 Boys Division with double Gold in the 200 and 400 meter races. He was denied a third gold by school mate Chanz Martin who pipped him at the line in the 100 meters. Martin also finished second to C. Riley Martin the 200 meters. Timothy Pearman accumulated 23 points for Whitney after winning the 800 meters, finishing second in the 400 meters and fourth in the 1500 meters.

Sprinters continued to dominate in the Over 13 Girls Division where Whitney’s Zyari Lawrence was named Division Champion. Lawrence outran all competitors in the 200 and 400 meters and finished second in the 100 meters. She was beaten in the 100 meters by Milan Gibbons-Thomas from BHS who also won the Triple Jump and finished third in the Long Jump. Saltus’ Kenzie Lawrence had a good day on the runway by winning the long jump and finishing second in the high and triple jump competitions. Gabriella Cechini was also a division double winner, the Somersfield Academy student finished on top in the 800 and 1500 meter races.

The Over 13 Boys Champion Boys title was shared by Lightbourne-Furbert and Saltus Grammar School’s Jordan Williams who leapt higher and further than all by winning the Long, Triple and High Jump events.

Perinchief Finishes Fourth in Jamaica Athletics Invitational

Jah-Nhai Perinchief finished in fourth place at the Inaugural Jamaica Athletics Invitational at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Perinchief had a top leap of 16.51 meters in the Men’s Triple Jump.

Jayden Hibbert, from Jamaica, won the Triple Jump with a leap of 17.57m, fellow Jamaican Jordan Scott was second leaping 16.84 and O’Brien Wasome made it one-two-three for the host country finishing third with a leap of 16.62.
