Clarke & Queens Fall Again

Maha Clarke and her Queens University of Charlotte Field Hockey teammates fell 3-2 to Lindenwood University thanks to a late goal scored in the 70th minute by the Lions. Queens is now on a four-game skid, sitting 7-7 on the year while the Lions wrap their regular season at 12-3.

Mazvita Mtisi would lead the Royals' offensive efforts with five shots on goal, scoring both of Queens' points. Karla von Ehren added three shots. Lanie Walsh totaled five saves in 70 minutes of play.

Queens was able to lead early as Mtisi rebounded a shot and put the ball in the cage to give the Royals a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. The Lions were not able to respond until a rebounded shot in the 21st produced the same result on their end of the field. Mtisi soon followed with her second goal of the day, scoring on a pass from Millie Eaton-Jones. Queens then took the 2-1 lead into the halftime break.

In the second, the Royals were held scoreless as Lindenwood added a pair to the board to steal the game. Their first goal came on a breakaway opportunity in the 40th, and the game-winner would not follow until the 70th on a penalty corner.

The Royals were outshot 20-14, though both teams totaled eight shots on goal. Queens also totaled seven penalty corners to the Lions' 10.

Bridget Hoogendijk led Lindenwood scoring two goals in the second half of the game while Caro Theunisz added one goal. Both players totaled five shots each. Skylar Starbeck grabbed in the win in the cage after recording five saves.
