In the opener the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4 – 2, Ross Rufiange scored two goals to lead the Vancouver Canucks to victory, with single strikes from Christopher Jackson and Nathan Kowalski, while the Montreal Canadiens got goals from Chris Allington and Bill Mcclure.
Winnipeg Jets 2 Ottawa Senators 3
The nightcap needed a shootout to produce a winner with the Ottawa Senators defeating the Winnipeg Jets 3 – 2.
The Ottawa Senators took the lead in the First Period with a goal off the stick of Paul Debarros, they would be 2 – 0 up in the Second Period when Cameron Poland found the back of the net. The Third Period saw the Winnipeg Jets come storming back and they got goals from Matt Katzsch and Jeffrey Morash.
But in the shootout the Ottawa Senators winner would come off the stick of Ed Sweeney.
