IslandStats.com
Alex Francis and her University of Western Women’s Field Hockey teammates wrapped up their pre-season campaign when they travelled to Toronto to compete in the annual University of Toronto Outdoor Invitational. The team saw action in four games, coming away with two wins and two losses.

The University of Western opened up the weekend against Halifax's Saint Mary's University. University of Western were able to move the ball fluently throughout the field with the help of outside midfielders Brigid Sterling and Nakisha Slavin. The duo helped the team come out on top with a 5-0 win over Saint Mary's.

Moving into the second game the University of Western faced off against the long-time OUA Champions in the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. After thunder and lightning delayed the game by a half hour, the two teams were itching to play. The University of Western were able to hold their space and keep Toronto contained for the first half, however by the end of the second half, Toronto was able to pull ahead and hand the Mustangs a 4-0 loss.

The team kicked off day two with a matchup against the Waterloo Warriors, who continuously placed pressure on Western throughout the entire game. After an even battle, the University of Western were able to take the win at 4-2. Lindsay Borrell would become the difference maker for the University of Western, netting back to back goals.

The final game of the weekend had the University of Western paired up against OUA Alumni. As fatigue took over, the Alumni were able to place 10 goals in the back of the net.
