Bermuda Ball Hockey League Round Up

The Bermuda Ball Hockey League Season’s final double header of 2018 took place at the PCC hockey Rink and it produced 16 goals.

Red Deer Rebels 2 Las Vegas Wranglers 3

In the opening match the Las Vegas Wranglers needed a shootout goal to edge the Red Deer Rebels 3 – 2.

The Red Deer Rebels would take the lead in the First Period through a Mathieu Desjardins goal. The lead would remain the same until the start of the Third Period as neither team found the back of the net in the Second Period.

The Red Deer Rebels would double their lead with an early goal off the stick of Chris Grantier, but back to goals from Brian White earned the Las Vegas Wranglers the comeback and send the game into the shootout.

In the Shootout White would be credited with the winner to complete the comeback.

Calgary Hitmen 4 Kelowna Rockets 7

The Kelowna Rockets got two goals from Adam Mattatall, they would also get single strikes off the sticks of Shane Matchett, David Provost, Bill Calko, Owen Siese and Jon Talbot, while the Calgary Hitmen got single strikes from Ryan Marshall, Jacob Marchant, Jeff Morash and Darren Maksymetz.

Bermuda Hockey Federation League Standings

The Bermuda Hockey Federation’s League Season has reached the end of play in 2018.

The Pink Robins are the current leaders of the BHF Club Ladies Standings as they are undefeated with 12 points from 4 fins, the Ravens have an 3 & 0 record and have 10 points, while the Budgies are in third with 7 points from 2 wins.

Bermuda Win First NEFHA in Bermuda

Bermuda Hockey Academy 4 New York Islanders 3

History was made as the National Sports Center hosted the first North East Field Hockey Association (NEFHA) 2018-2019 Men's League match in Bermuda.

The Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders did not disappoint the home crowd picking up a 4 – 3 win.

Bermuda took the lead in the 3rd minute when Jude Mosely scored from a Field Goal, but three minutes later the score was level at 1 – 1 when Darlo Clement scored from a Penalty Corner for the New York Islanders.

Bermuda would go back in front in the 11th minute when Mosely scored his second Field Goal of the game, but yet again the New York Islanders would be level in the game this time in the 29th minute when Leroy Mayers scored from a Penalty Corner.

Bermuda would take their third lead of the game in the 58th minute when Captain Donovan Simmons scored from a Penalty Corner, but three minutes later the score was level yet again with Noel Samu scoring from a Penalty Corner for the New York Islanders.

The Bermuda winner came with just 30 seconds remaining on the clock as Nigel Deane found the back of the net sending the local team and their fans into wild celebrations.

Bermuda Fall In Islanders Cup Match

Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders 1 (3) New York Islanders (4)

The New York Islanders were crowned the Islanders Cup Match champions but needed a Shootout to do so over the Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders.

The match ended 1 - 1 at the end of regulation, which then saw the game go to a penalty shootout it was 3-3 at the end of penalty out of 5 each, it was then down to sudden death.

Unfortunately on the first play of the sudden death Bermuda missed and then New York scored theirs to win.

Machail Ming-Woodley game the Bermuda Hockey Academy islanders the lead in the 11th minute scoring from a Penalty Corner.

Just when it would seem as if the Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders would grab the win, the New York Islanders scored with 40 seconds left on the clock from a Penalty Corner goal off the stick of Noel Samu.

After 3 penalty corners it was 3-2 to the New York Islanders with the New York Islanders shooting first, this meant if they scored on their fifth corner they would win. Instead Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders goalkeeper Zahyinde Lightbourne-Cann made the huge save to keep Bermuda in the game.

Next up was Donnie Simmons who had to score to keep Bermuda Hockey Academy Islanders in the game. As he was taking his penalty shootout he was foul by the goal keeper and was award a Penalty Stroke which saw him convert to level the score at 3-3.

After five penalty shootouts it went to Sudden Death with Bermuda going first.

Hemijah Bean step up for Bermuda and beat the keeper but slipped and was unable to push the ball into the goal, up stepped Ellis Chance for New York who beat the keeper after a spin move slotted the ball home for the win.

Bermuda Ball Hockey League Round Up

Kelowna Rockets 7 Red Deer Rebels 6

The opener was a see-saw battle that produced a Shootout Goal winner the thirteenth of the game as the Kelowna Rockets defeated the Red Deer Rebels 7 – 6.

The two teams were deadlocked at 2 – 2 at the end of the First Period with the Kelowna Rockets getting a goal from Jon Talbot and Chris Coleman, while the Red Deer Rebels got goals from Matt Katzsch and Adrian Stromberg.

The Red Deer Rebels would take a commanding 5 – 3 lead at the end of the Second Period, the Red Deer Rebels would get two goals from Shannon Goose and a single strike from Paul Debarros, while Bill Calko scored the lone Kelowna Rockets goal of the period.

The Kelowna Rockets would then outscore the Red Deer Rebels 3 – 1 in the Third Period to level the game at 6 – 6. Talbot would complete his hat-trick with two goals in the period for the Kelowna Rockets, while Shane Matchett added the other. Stromberg scored the lone goal for the Red Deer Rebels in the period.

In the Shootout Period Calko would score his second of the game and ended it as a contest for the Kelowna Rockets win.

Las Vegas Wranglers 1 Worchester Railers 4

In the nightcap the Worchester Railers defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 4 – 1. Christopher Jackson scored twice for the Worchester Railers, who also got goals from Andrew Kuzma and Andrew Bonner, while Derek Winch scored the lone goal for the Las Vegas Wrnglers.
