The World Tens Series is proud to introduce you to Mark Sakr- Tournament Medical Director for the World Tens Series Bermuda 2020.
Mark Sakr has years of experience working with the USA Men’s and Women’s Olympic rugby teams at the US 7s series tournaments and he has worked as a team physician with the USA rugby 15’s Men’s national team including at the Rugby World Cup in 2019.
Sakr is also the program director of the Northside Hospital Sports Medicine Fellowship and he completed his residency at Duke University in Family Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident and he completed his Sports Medicine fellowship training at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill.
Sakr is originally from New York and he previously played football, soccer, and basketball and he played flanker and number eight for his club rugby team- the University of Michigan.
The first-ever Word Tens Series gets underway from the 24 October until 07 November 2020. Eight international privately-owned teams from all over the world will compete in a ten-a-side rugby tournament, over three rounds of action which includes round-robin, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
Sakr has been working with the Bermuda Tourism Authority in order to ensure a safe event for all players and he is responsible for ensuring players receive the best medical care in Bermuda.
“We have worked closely with the Bermuda Health Ministry to make sure we are adhering to their travel and quarantine guidelines as we enter into the World Tens Bubble in Bermuda. COVID aside, there are many considerations for medical that happen before any athlete steps foot at a tournament site. Tournament medical directors will communicate closely with the league Chief Medical Officer to ensure all policies around player welfare are laid out and achieved, including working with local medical officials to ensure access and streamlining of receiving care while away. Also identifying local resources to remove as many logistical questions as possible for the teams when they arrive.”
