The 2018 RAN Men’s and Women’s Sevens came to an end in Barbados.
The performance of the Men’s team was extremely impressive, the hard work and fitness training put in place by the Sevens management was very evident.
Bermuda defeated Trinidad & Tobago 26 – 19, to advance to the Semi-Finals, the team’s defensive alignment and cohesion was very difficult for the other teams to break down. In the Semi-Final Bermuda took on the defending champions Jamaica, Jamaica was able to exploit the small mistakes and defeated Bermuda 14 – 5.
Bermuda would face Mexico in the 3rd and 4th playoff match, with Bermuda putting in a dominating performance. Outstanding performances by some of the younger Bermudians Tadhg Oshaugnessy, Antonio Perenichief and Alex Dowling were highlights in the Bermuda 24 – 7 win.
In the Women’s competition Bermuda was challenged by regions with more established programs with higher player numbers.
The Bermuda Women’s team would fall to the Bahamas 24 – 10, Bermuda would then face off against the Dominican Republic and would fall 41 – 0. Bermuda’s final match of the tournament would see them go down 32 – 0 to Guyana.
