Toms & Bedwas Advance in WRU National Cup

IslandStats.com
Brynley Toms and his Bedwas teammates are through to the second round of the WRU National Cup after a comfortable seven try 43 – 0 victory over Narberth who showed the tenacity to work to the end despite the huge point’s difference.

On a heavy pitch following much recent rain Bedwas got off to the start they hoped for. Following a five meter scrum the ball was sped wide for full back Aaron Bramwell to touch down near the corner flag. Steffan Jones’ tricky conversion went wide.

Bedwas continued to attack, a series of close range scums bought no reward and a long run from Connor Edwards was snuffed out when the youngster failed to spot the overlapping players to his right he made amends on 25 minutes to grab a try close to the posts. Jones added the conversion.

Despite their best efforts Narberth could not get a toe hold in the game as Bedwas dominated possession and territory.

With half time approaching Adam Williams dived in through a crowd for try number 3, Jones’ conversion putting Bedwas 19 points to the good at the interval.

Just after the break an injury to Andrew Waite saw a reshuffle in the pack with James Richards coming into the fray followed shortly afterwards by more replacements as Connor Edwards, Jack Williams and Geraint Edmunds all made way.

Bedwas’ fourth and Bramwell’s second try of the day after 51 minutes together with Jones’ conversion quelled any thoughts Narberth had of getting anything from the game but Bedwas were not finished.

Just short of the hour James Richards made it five on the day as he was driven over by the Bedwas pack, Jones again adding the extras.

Two further tries by Tom Rowlands featuring a brilliant out of the back of the hand pass by Mike Callow and Craig Hudd after 65 and 67 minutes completed the mission for Bedwas and although Narberth were able to enjoy some possession for the final 10 minutes Bedwas defended well to deny any opportunities.
