Brynley Toms and his Bedwas teammates went toe to toe with Ebbw Vale in a big Boxing Day match knowing that the winner put themselves into the frame for a top eight finish when the league splits in January.
In the end it was Bedwas earning a hard fought 23 - 22 win.
Bedwas was cruising at one point leading 15 - 0, but then found themselves down 22 - 18, before scoring a later Try and Conversion for the win.
Richard Powell kicked a Penalty to give Bedwas a 3 - 0 lead after 14 minutes, the lead had grown to 10 - 0 ten minutes later when Michael Callow went over for a Try which Powell kicked the Conversion.
In the 38th minute James Benjamin went over for a Bedwas Try, and with Powell’s Conversion attempt missed it left the score at 15 - 0.
Ryan Gardiner would get Ebbw Vale on the board with a Try in the 42nd minute, but Josh Lewis missed the Conversion attempt to leave the score at 15 - 5.
In the 54th minute David Langdon went over for a Try for Ebbw Vale and Lewis this time connected for the Conversion to make the score 15 - 12.
Toms who started the match on the bench entered the game in the 55th minute and was on the field four minutes before Craig Duncan kicked a Penalty for Ebbw Vale to draw level at 15 - 15.
Powell would kick a Penalty in the 63rd minute to put Bedwas back in front 18 - 15, but six minutes later Rhys Clarke would go over for a Try for Ebbw Vale and Lewis was good with the Conversion as Ebbw Vale went ahead 22 - 18.
With time running out Aaron Bramwell would score a Try for Bedwas and when Powell kicked the Conversion it earned Bedwas a lead and then the win 23 - 22.
