After 6 weeks of intense training twenty-three Under 12 players will be leaving our shores to play in the first Tri Nations Mini Rugby Tournament in the Bahamas on May 12th and May 13th with the Bahamas and Cayman Islands.
The group has bonded very well after the fitness and skills sessions on Tuesday and Thursday at the Arboretum and Sunday at Somersfield Academy. The boys have come to love the rolling hills of the Arboretum and many of them really improved their fitness levels. The coaches have been very impressed with the commitment of the boys and their application in training. Coaching staff consists of Stephen Robb, Geoff Page, Patrick Calow (Youth Development Officer), Peter Bell and Chris Page.
The group have recently held two fundraising activities including a car wash at Warwick Academy and a KBB clean up at St Bernard’s Park.
The team is truly a global team with boys from all parts of the globe including Indonesia, Jamaica, Bahamas, U.S.A, South Africa, U.K and Bermuda. In addition, the success of the Beyond Rugby program, B.R.F.U. Mini rugby programs and Calow’s work in the schools has positively impacted the team with the squad composition being from nine schools and an equal mix from both the public and private school system. Many of the boys are in their first year of rugby and have thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie and focused training sessions which has enhanced their knowledge of the game.
The itinerary includes a trip to the Everglades en route, tour of Freeport, round robin games on Saturday and test matches with National Anthems on Sunday.
