Bermuda Set to play Sevens in Barbados

IslandStats.com
A team from Bermuda is set to take Barbados by storm during the upcoming 2011 North American Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Men’s and Women’s Sevens which will take place at the Garrison Savannah, on Saturday and Sunday, November 12th and 13th 2011.

Reigning champions Guyana (both Men and Women) will be looking to hold onto their titles, though they face stiff opposition from the likes of Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago in the Men’s Championships and Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago in the Women’s.

With 27 teams from 16 territories booked to participate, this event has become the largest ever 7-a-side tournament in NACRA history.

This event will be a major milestone for the BRFU and for Barbados, as it will see an influx of visitors to participate in and support the games. Local businesses are expected to benefit significantly, as each of the 27 teams will comprise as least 15 players, plus coaches, managers and physiotherapists, as well as an unknown number of spectators.

Hosts, the Barbados Rugby Football Union, have been promoting the game vigorously with an active youth programme in several secondary schools, including Garrison Secondary, Queen’s College, Christ Church Foundation, and Harrison College.
