Duffy To Compete in XTERRA Worlds

IslandStats.com
Flora Duffy, the most dominating female to ever race off-road triathlon, is returning to the sports’ biggest stage with the chance to become the first elite to win five XTERRA World Championship crowns.

The Bermudan three-time Olympian confirmed her entry into the 24th edition of XTERRA Worlds to be held October 27th, 2019 in Kapalua, Maui.

“I am really excited to be back in Maui for XTERRA Worlds,” said Duffy, winner of her last 11 XTERRA races, and 16 of 19 since 2013 (which doesn’t include two ITU Cross Tri World titles).

“After missing most of last season and this season to injury, I have so much more appreciation for being healthy and the privilege of racing. The time off due to injury was really difficult and there were a lot of moments where I did not think I would race again. So to be back racing is already a huge win.”

Indeed, Duffy racing again is a huge win for everybody – for XTERRA, for triathlon, for Bermuda!

“My progress back to full fitness has been slow but with each race I did this season, I have felt more like my old self,” added Duffy, who finished third at the Tokyo Olympic Qualification event last month (and was later awarded the win after Jess Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown were DQ’d), was 5th at the WTS Grand Final in Lausanne, and 3rd at the Banyoles World Cup on September 7th.

In Duffy’s last XTERRA race, two years ago in Maui, she became the first female to win four XTERRA World Championship titles and the only elite – male or female - to win four straight.
