A moody morning welcomed 54 women including Erica Hawley onto the black sand of Ngamotu Beach, to line up in the first World Triathlon Cup of the year in New Plymouth, New Zealand. The 2023 World Triathlon Cup New Plymouth included a stacked international field, valuable Olympic points on the line, and a sprint distance race format.
As expected it was a fast and tactical race in the 2023 World Triathlon Cup New Plymouth over the hilly course in Taranaki, which started from Ngamotu Beach - with a 750m ocean swim (1-lap). 20km bike (4 laps) and 5km run (3-laps).
Hawley finished 28th, she clocked a time of 1:06:19, Nicole Van Der Kaay from New Zealand clocked a winning time of 1:02:57, Ainsley Thorpe also from New Zealand was second crossing the line clocking 1:03:06, and Solveig Lovseth from Norway was third with a time of 1:03:14.
Hawley clocked 10:24 on the Swim, 37:22 on the Bike, and 17:18 on the Run.
