Erica Hawley competed in the Major League Triathlon Vail Valley Event in Colorado.
Hawley represented AC Waves finished 24th overall and was the 4th female finisher.
Hawley clocked a time of 20.14, this after completing the Swim in a time of 6:01, she then clocked a time of 7:38 on the Bike Course, before closing out with a time of 6:02 on the Run Course.
Hawley and her AC Waves Mixed Relay teammates finished 6th clocking an overall time of 1:18:25.
Hawley said, “I had the amazing opportunity to be able to race for the AC Waves this past weekend in Vail, CO. Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon league in the US. The event is run as a mixed team relay so there are 4 people on a team and we all race a super sprint distance. I started in 3rd position and we were in 8th place so it was definitely going to be tough to get back in the game... but I had a decent leg.”
Hawley went on to say, “The swim was solid, the bike was 5 laps consisting of 1 km per lap and 12 turns which made it very technical and challenging. The key for me here was to be confident and try to ride Flora Duffy style. The run was definitely the hardest. being at 8000 feet made a mile seem a lot longer and harder! All in all it was a great test event for worlds on September 15th - I got to practice my transitions and start speed for each discipline.”
