Tyler Butterfield finished 6th at the Challenge Roth Triathlon in Germany which was over the Ironman race distances stopping the clock in 8:18:39.
Butterfield had a solid swim and was third off the bike but faded in the run, perhaps a sign of his interrupted training due to illness and injury.
The story of the day was the performance of Germany’s Jan Frodeno, the 2015 Ironman World Champion, who posted an extraordinary time of 7:35:39 to beat the previous fastest time over this distance by over 6 minutes.
Frodeno destroyed the field with second place Joe Skipper finishing in 7:56:23, over 20 minute behind Frodeno.
Defending champion, Nils Frommhold, considered one of the best Ironman Triathletes, was third in 2:57:49.
Butterfield covered the Swim distance in a time of 48:56, he then rode the Bike Course in 4:17:18 and then clocked 3:08:46 on the Run Course.
