Bermuda Triathletes Compete in Chicago

Maria Duffy led the way as 16 of Bermuda’s Age Group Triathletes competed on the Final Day of the World Championships in Chicago watched by Flora Duffy.

The weather played havoc with Thursday’s and Friday’s schedule but today it was the later Age Group starters who were informed late on that their Swim was cut to 750 meters, evidently due to strong currents in the Lake.

Duffy finished 11th in the Women’s 60-64 Age Group just missing out on a top ten finish. Duffy completed the 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run in 2:51:47.

Bermuda’s other finishers were at the Full Distance saw Jonny Betts finish 104th in Men’s 40-44 Age Group with a time of 2:25:20, while with a time of 2:48:52 it saw Frances Betts finish 73rd in Women’s 40 -44 Age Group Division.

Competing in the Women’s 55-59 Age Group Sharon Craig finished 44th with a time of 2:57:01, while Sarah Farrar finished 76th in the Women’s 40-44 Age Group clocking 2:54:02, Aaron Garcia’s time of 2:22:17 finished 88th in the Men’s 25-29 Age Group and Chris Hands clocked 2:17:31 which saw him finish 82nd competing in the Men’s 25-29 Age Group.

Tom Hands 110th competing in the Men’s 50 – 54 Age Group clocking a time of 2:52:38, while Rebecca Shepherd clocked a time of 2:36:13 finishing 53rd competing in the Women’s 40-44 Age Group, Jennifer Wilson clocked 2:39:32 finishing 89th in Women’s 35-39 Age Group and Karl Wilson recorded a time of 2:15:15 which put him across the line 68th in the Men’s 35-39 Age Group.

Three competitors competed at the Shortened Distance, Deanna Didyk finished 62nd with a time of 2:29:04 competing in the Women’s 45-49 Age Group, while Ben Lau’s time of 2:11:49 saw him finish 109th in the Men’s 45-49 Age Group and Alec Shepherd’s time of 2:05:41 saw him finish 85th in the Men’s 45-49 Age Group Division.

Former Bermuda residents Kim McMullen and Riann Naude both represented Canada with Naude sadly a DNF after a flat early on the bike and McMullen having a great race finishing 10th in the Women’s 45-49 Age Group.

Bermuda resident Kim McIvor raced for Canada in the sprint event on Friday finishing in 1:26:16 in the 35-39 Age Group which put her 71st in her Age Group.
