The third competitor from Bermuda Erica Hawley produced a solid performance in her first ever 16-19 Junior Elite Triathlon World Championships crossing the line 45th .
After a disappointing 750m Swim time of 10:45, Hawley was 1:47 down on the leaders and in 64th place out of 67 starters but worked her way up on the Bike to exit on to the run in 50th position. Hawley then showed just how much her run has improved by finishing in 1:05:41.
The race was won by Germany’s Laura Lindemann in 57:28, almost a minute ahead of Silver Medalist Taylor Knibb of the USA.
With two more years to go in this age group Hawley can take a lot of encouragement out of this performance especially as she can certainly produce a stronger swim that would have put her even further up the field had she been able to work with one of the faster bike groups.
