The Bermuda 2014 Male Athlete of the Year Tyler Butterfield was happy to get the news that he had won the honor.
Butterfield said, “I am always honored as Bermuda has such great athletes and talent. I did have a great start to 2014 with the biggest win of my career, however the end did not go as well as planned or hoped at the World Championships. So I was a little surprised, as at home I am very hard on myself when I didn't perform to expectations at the end of 2014.”
Butterfield went on to say, “But in reality 2014 was a success and I was very excited and happy to represent Bermuda with a win at such a prestigious international race like the Abu Dhabi International Long Course Triathlon.”
“It was a great day and didn't sink in till getting on the flight home and seeing a photo in the Abu Dhabi newspaper,” continued Butterfield.
“I'm proud to be rewarded for 2014, but know as always I have my work cut out to stay near the top of Bermuda's athletes. There are many people striving to great performances and it is inspiring to see from such a small island in the Atlantic Ocean what Bermuda has produced,” continued Butterfield.
Butterfield went on, “I wish all the Bermuda athletes the best for 2015 and let's keep showing the world what our country can do.”
Butterfield concluded, “I would like to say thank you to the Bermuda Triathlon Association and Bermuda Olympic Committee for their years of support. My sponsors, with Tokio Millenium as a title sponsor for years now enabling international competitions to be possible for me. And I could not have ever had a triathlon career without Patty Petty's help and my family both always being there for me.”
