Erica Hawley and Tyler Smith competed at the CAMTRI North American Championships. The USA Junior Triathlon event featured some of the best 16-19 Juniors from the US, Canada and Mexico.
During the Junior Elite Female race Hawley finished 30th clocking a time of 1:08:42, she covered the 750m Swim Course in a time of 12:25, she then clocked 32:18 on the 20K Bike Course, before closing out the 5K Run Course with a time of 22:52.
Smith finished the Junior Elite Male race with a time of 1:00:29 which put him across the line in 26th place. Smith had a great swim and came out of the water tied for 17th with a time of 11:16, he unfortunately had a spill on the bike right after mounting due to hitting some debris on the road (perhaps a water bottle) and this lost him value time. He got pretty scratched up but dusted himself off and got back on his bike.  To make matters worse, the cable on his shoe snapped as a result of the crash and he was unable to fasten his right shoe for the race. This limited his pedal power and made it even more challenging for him to make up his lost time on the field during the bike of this draft legal race. He finished the bike with a relatively poor time of 29:21 on the 20K Bike Course, Smith then clocked 18:46 on the 5K Run Course.
