Commonwealth Games Triathlon Round Up

IslandStats.com
Flora Duffy finished 8th in the Women's Triathlon clocking a time of 2:02:18. Duffy following a strong swim was able to get on the front of the pack cycling after the third lap, but the strength of the field was able to run away from her in the end.

Meanwhile Tyler Butterfield clocked a time of 1:55.31 on his way to finishing 19th in the Men's Triathlon. Butterfield also had a strong swim and then was made to work hard on the Bike as the two riders he was with refused to take a pull thus leaving him to chase the pack from the front.

Unfortunately Jonathan Herring and Tucker Murphy were pulled out of the race after being lapped by the leaders on the Bike.

The first gold medal of the Commonwealth Games was awarded in the bucolic surrounds of the Strathclyde Country Park outside Glasgow, where England’s Jodie Stimpson won the triathlon.

She finished in 1:58.56, 15 seconds ahead of her compatriot Vicky Holland, who came third. The English pair sandwiched the Canadian silver medallist Kirsten Sweetland.

Olympic Gold Medalist Alistair Brownlee adds Commonwealth title, as his brother Jonny completes a perfect day for England at Strathclyde Park.

In blistering Scottish sunshine, under Saltire-blue skies, Alistair Brownlee, the Olympic champion, repeated his triumph of two summers ago to give England’s gold rush at the Commonwealth Games added impetus after he finished well ahead of a triathlon field which included his brother Jonny

There was no photo finish for Brownlee. So far out in front was he, he was able to walk untroubled down the home straight. Stooping to pick up two Cross of St George banners and a flag of Yorkshire, pausing to high-five every hand extended from the packed grandstand, the older Brownlee beamed his way home, resembling someone out for a gentle midsummer stroll.
