Digicel $8,000 Sponsorship for Franklin

IslandStats.com
Last week Digicel Bermuda announced they have chosen to sponsor Micah Franklin, the former Junior National Champion Squash player who is currently ranked #3 in Bermuda. At only 19, this winner of numerous tournaments has chosen to turn professional and will undergo three months intensive training in Canada under the watchful eye of former #1 World squash player, Jonathan Power. Franklin has recently joined the PSA World Squash Tour and will participate in upcoming events in Europe and New York City in 2012.

The sponsorship has been spearheaded by Shane McDonnell, Sales Director of Digicel Bermuda, who stated, “Digicel Bermuda has chosen to award Franklin just over $8,000 to assist with the NSA Training Program in Canada, the Swiss Open, the Baillargues Open and the Rochester Open. We understand how costs can impact an athlete’s career; without financial assistance, training, traveling and gear can become quite costly. We are proud to help Franklin in any way we can and we look forward to continuing our relationship with squash in Bermuda.”

Wayne Caines, CEO of Digicel Bermuda, says, “As we continue to support the squash community in its initiatives, I am glad to see this young talented man strive to better himself in such a fine sport. Digicel Bermuda is proud to sponsor Franklin as he embarks on an extraordinary milestone of his life by playing professionally and we hope to continue working with him.”

“I am truly grateful to Digicel for helping me to reach my goal of being a top professional squash player and I am looking forward to starting my career”, said Franklin. I am hoping to train as hard as I can in Canada and then, God willing, to travel the globe to play in professional squash tournaments. Huge thanks again to Digicel Bermuda and the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association for all their help and support.”
