Castle Celebrates Senior Day with a Goal

IslandStats.com
Casey Castle and his University of Indianapolis Men's Soccer teammates recorded a 6-2 win over visiting Maryville in Great Lakes Valley Conference play to celebrate Senior Day at Key Stadium.

Before the game, University of Indianapolis honored its seven senior student-athletes, Max Rohda, Ngwese Ebangwese, Andrew Verhonik, Will Kramer, Devin Brown, Daniel Wellmann and Castle, and one senior athletic trainer, Ashlee Erlandson.

University of Indianapolis scored early and often in the decisive win. University of Indianapolis got on the scoreboard first at the 7:23 mark, with Ebangwese scoring his fourth goal of the year, making a steal and dribbling the ball all the way to the other side of the field. He sent his shot in past the Maryville keeper from just outside the box.

Maryville would draw level in the 17th minute, on Kory Clawson's first goal of the year, but University of Indianapolis scored just more than two minutes later and never looked back. Castle's third goal of the year, a put-back on a rebound off of a Wahsay shot, gave the lead back to the University of Indianapolis for good.

The University of Indianapolis put away three more scores prior to the halftime break, with Wellmann getting in on the Senior Day scoring with a running header by the near post off of a Josh Ling corner kick at the 27:11 mark. Wellmann would then assist on the fourth University of Indianapolis goal, Jacob Meyer's team-leading sixth of the year, at the 42:27 mark. Wellmann and Ling then hooked up for a second set piece goal just more than a minute later.

After the intermission, the University of Indianapolis added one more goal, while Maryville also put another ball in the net. Ebangwese scored his second goal of the game and fifth of the year on a header off of a cross from Julian Shamsaie to bring the score to 6-1. Maryville added the final goal of the match in the 77th minute on Alex Brown's first goal of the season.

The University of Indianapolis held the advantage in shots, 25-11, and also took four corner kicks to the Saints' one. Wahsay led the offense with eight shots, while Andrew Verhonik took the win in goal, making a pair of saves in facing eight shots before giving way to Will Kramer, who made one save in just less than 17 minutes in goal.
