Akeyla Furbert and her University of South Carolina Aiken Women’s Soccer teammates recorded a 1-1 Double-Overtime draw with Division I foe South Carolina State.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Brye Epley came up huge for USC Aiken. She scored the first goal of her career, giving the team a 1-0 advantage. Epley netted her goal at the 49:54 mark.
The home team netted the tying goal with just seven seconds remaining in regulation.
In the overtime session, Furbert chance at the 97:37 mark sailed wide of the frame. Epley nearly had a game-winning tally at the 102:36 mark, but it hit the post.
George's team nearly clinched the victory on several occasions, including on a Megan Smits' breakaway in the second overtime period. However, her attempt sailed just wide of the goal. Tori Caldwell's attempt in the final seconds also went wide of the frame.
USC Aiken dominated all facets of the match. The squad held a 12-9 advantage in shots. The team also had five corner kicks compared to just two by the home team.
Karin Cadwalader played all 110 minutes between the pipes. She tallied four saves in the draw.
