Christopher & Nesbeth Score Teams First Goals in Wins
Nia Christopher and her Towson University Women's Soccer teammates earned their first win in program history in the CAA Tournament with a 2 - 1 victory against fourth-seed Elon.
Christopher gave Towson an early 1-0 lead with Phoebe Canoles providing a second-half goal for Towson as they defeat Elon to advance to the CAA Semi-Finals for the first time in program history.
Christopher was also named to the All-CAA First Team.
Leilanni Nesbeth and her fifth-ranked Florida State Women’s Soccer teammates closed off their regular season with a 4 - 1 win at home against Virginia Tech at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
Florida State finished the regular season tied in points for first place in the ACC and will be a top-two seed at the ACC Tournament. FSU earned a share of its fifth ACC regular season championship.
Florida State wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring 61 seconds after the first whistle. Jenna Nighswonger stepped up to take the free kick about 30 yards out from the goal. Nighswonger sent a lofted ball into a mass of players. Virginia Tech’s keeper was able to get a piece of the initial ball but failed to collect it, rebounding it to the foot of Nesbeth. Nesbeth redirected the rebound into the back of the net, scoring the second-fastest goal of the season for Florida State.
