Ne-Jai Tucker and his Burnley Under 21 teammates lost out 2 - 0 to Reading in their first away game of the season in the Professional Development League.
Two goals within the opening 21 minutes from Jahmari Clarke and Basil Tuma were enough to earn three points for Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
After being with the first team and given the number 48 for the season, Tucker returned to start alongside Finn Armstrong, who made his own comeback from a hamstring injury.
Down 1 – 0 and looking to hit back, Burnley saw Tucker’s goalbound free-kick tipped around the post by Reading goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke, with Lewis Richardson heading over from the resulting corner.
In the second half and down 2 – 0, Tucker rattled the crossbar with another free-kick as Burnley continued to search for a route back into the contest.
Despite constant pressure, no breakthrough could be found by Tucker and his teammates.
