Haile Eve and his Pfeiffer University Men's Soccer teammates withstood a furious Guilford comeback bid late in the match to hold on, winning 4 - 3 in the 2019 season opener at Herb Appenzeller Field in Greensboro, N.C.
Pfeiffer got on the board first when Caleb Bratager received a pass from freshman Ross Genetti in the 11th minute to put Pfeiffer up 1-0.
The lead would be boosted to 2-0 when Connor Morgan scored off a pass from Payton Leary in the 31st minute.
In the 50th minute Guilford would cut the lead to 2-1 on a penalty kick, but less than four minutes later, Pfeiffer would be the beneficiary of a Guilford own goal, stretching the lead to 3-1. Guilford would get a goal from Kyle Broderick in the 58th minute to cut the lead to 3-2.
Pfeiffer's Diego Moran made it 4-2 at the 64th minute getting a pass from Bratager. Guilford would respond, cutting the lead to 4-3 at the 76th minute with a Kennedy Nzekwe goal.
Pfeiffer then had to fight off numerous late challenges from the Quakers. Guilford just missed levelling the match in the 85th minute when a slow shot trickled just left of an open Pfeiffer net.
