Jada Samuels and her Thomas College Women's Soccer teammates began their 2019 regular season with a 4-0 loss to the University of Southern Maine at Smith Field.
The score stayed tied until the 68th minute, when a corner kick by Ciera Berthiaume found the head of Madi Freeman for the go-ahead goal. The University of Southern Maine scored again in the 76th minute on a nearly identical goal, with Freeman once again heading in a corner kick from Berthiaume.
University of Southern Maine continued to see success off the corner kick as they scored once again three minutes later when a Freeman header off a corner deflected to Elise Porter, who scored a header goal of her own to make it 3-0. The University of Southern Maine scored their final goal in the 85th minute when Alex Allain picked up a through ball right up the middle and scored after beating the goalkeeper and a defender.
