Bermuda’s Under-17 Women’s National Team continues its quest to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup when the CONCACAF Women’s’ Under 17 Championship resume at the IMG Academy as they take on the United States of America.
The United States used a strong offensive performance to earn a 10-1 victory over Bermuda.
The U.S. had eight different goalscorers on the day, with Maya Doms and Sunshine Fontes each scoring twice in a win that sends the U.S. to the knockout round of the tournament, while Bermuda has been eliminated.
The U.S. struck early when Mia Fishel who has Bermuda links with her father the brother of Andrew, Herbie and David Bascome received a long ball over the top and calmly stroked home a right-footed shot to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute.
Bermuda fought back when Leilanni Nesbeth scored Bermuda’s first goal of the tournament in the 17th minute with a free kick that swerved in past U.S. goalkeeper Julia Dohle to make it 1 - 1.
The U.S. would regain control though when Diana Ordonez slotted in a shot underneath Bermuda goalkeeper Zakhari Turner giving them a 2 - 1 advantage in the 25th minute.
Seven minutes later Doms made it 3 - 1 after hitting a strong finish past Turner.
The U.S. would then tack on another two goals to end the half, as Reilyn Turner squeezed in shot from a narrow angle in the 41st minute and Samantha Kroeger swept in a right-footer in the 44th minute for a 5 - 1 halftime lead.
Less than two minutes after the restart a long-range shot from Makenna Morris extended the lead to 6 - 1. Doms then scored her second of the day, from a header in the 48th minute for a 7 - 1 U.S. lead.
Following an Astrid Wheeler goal in the 85th minute, Fontes would cap things by scoring in the 86th and 90th minutes to complete the U.S. victory.
