David Jones & Ilkeston Fall to Leicester
A double from Kairo Mitchell sealed a comfortable win for a youthful Leicester City XI at the New Manor Ground.

Ilkeston began this pre-season clash with Liam Hearn and David Jones in attack, Dexter Atkinson and Luis Rose sat on the flanks with Haydn Goddard and Danny Gordon in midfield.

With around a minute on the clock, Leicester took the lead. A corner was delivered to the back post where Melkamu Taufer hit a looping header onto the bar, Ilkeston couldn’t clear the danger and Kairo Mitchell was on hand to head in from a yard out.

The game would soon descend into a trade off in possession. Ilkeston were searching for a way back into the game but often with little urgency as associated with a pre-season clash. Atkinson looked to surge down the right but fouled his man in the process. Captain Matt Baker would provide several important touches to prevent the Foxes getting in behind.

The Robins showed some fluency with great build up from Goddard, Jones and Rose but the latter couldn’t get the shot away inside the box. Leicester then pressed and earned several corners which were defended well before Rory Coleman cleared an in-swinging free kick.

Daniel Rowe had a chance to extend the lead but he mis-cued inside the box following Mitchell’s ball in. This was followed by a way-ward strike from Matt Miles who fired over the bar. However just before the break the Foxes did extend the lead.

A wonderful piece of skill from Connor Wood took him into the box where he crossed for Rowe to glance a header into the bottom right hand corner.

The second half maintained the same trend but with more emphasis on substitutes and giving other players a run out. Six minutes into the second half; Leicester made it three. A cross into the box wasn’t cleared by Luke Foster; the resulted clearance fell kindly to Mitchell who tapped home

Rowe could have added to his tally but he fired a free kick wide of the far post. But just after the hour mark, the Robins recovered some of the deficit. A corner taken by Coleman found Foster at the back post who nodded towards Hearn who showed great instinct to fire into the top corner on the half turn.

Hearn could have added to his tally but fired a free kick straight at Max Bramley in one of few second half chances. However despite the result, it was another good run out for Ilkeston who gained some valuable experience as preparations continue for the new season.
