David Jones and his Ilkeston FC Teammates defeated Nottingham Forest Under-21s at Ilkeston Football Club 2-0 .
The Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division team were winners at the New Manor Ground thanks to Rory Coleman's free-kick and a further strike from Jones in a game played over three periods.
It was the first time Paul Holland had taken charge of at Ilkeston FC and he admitted the game was far from about the result at this early stage of pre-season.
After the game, he told the club website: "It was a great workout. The first eight or nine days of pre-season have gone brilliantly.
"It was a training game we needed to get something out of. We said all along everyone was going to play 30 or 40 minutes.
"Pre-season is a work in progress. I don't read too much into pre-season games but two goals and a clean sheet is a good starting point."
