Following their 1 – 0 loss to Cuba in their opening match of the Caribbean Football Union's Under 17 Championships in Puerto Rico, www.islandstats.com spoke with National Coach Naquita Robinson.
Robinson is acting in the capacity of Assistant Coach to the current Under 17 Women’s National Coach Aaron Denkins.
Robinson when asked to rate the overall effort of the team said, “Tonight's performance was awesome. The girls went at Cuba from the whistle. We defended extraordinarily and Cuba could not find a way through. Nia Christopher was extremely outstanding. Taznae Fubler had an outstanding game as well. Jadae Steede Hill made a huge difference when she came on. What made me the proudest was the fact that the calls were constantly going against us but our girls kept their heads and pressed on.”
Robinson next responded to how she along with Coach Denkins will lift the spirit of the girls to continue the fight, “Immediately after the game we lifted the girl’s spirits. We had to show them that we can compete with the best of them. A defensive error allowed them to score but we had our chances. The girls are very encouraged and hungry for the next game. Jamaica will be a little tougher test for us but we will be up to the task.”
Robinson concluded with an update on the injuries, “Zakiyah Durham took a serious knock to the ankle early in the match. Young Danni Watson came on and filled the position admirably. Jadae Steede Hill also picked up a slight knock.”
