Bermuda 1 Puerto Rico 0

As the Bermuda Women’s Under 20 National team are just hours away from their first match in Group 2 of the Caribbean Football Union Under 20 World Cup Qualifiers we have received a report for a Football Correspondent in Haiti.

Bermuda Starting Line Up: Micah Pond, Sarai Paul, Taznae Fubler, Marley Christian, Leah Smith, K'Shaela Burch-Waldron, Zahra Gibbons, Jahzyiah Samuels, Aaliyah Nolan, Eva Frazzoni, Symira Lowe-Darrell Bermuda Substitutes Jaeda Smith, Brianna Swainson, Danni Watson, Jasmine Simmons, Teyah Lindo, Victoria Davis, Tiara Smith.

For those who are unsure what a Correspondent is the dictionary states: a person who writes letters to a person or a newspaper, especially on a regular basis. In our case it is a person who often sends www.islandstats.com information from Haiti on a regular basis.

From our correspondent in Haiti – The team arrived in Port-au-Prince and have settled in nicely, they trained yesterday and it went well despite the fact we were left waiting for an hour for the bus.

“Today Bermuda will kick start the 2nd round of the CFU Tournament against Puerto Rico. They will be a tough opponent but Bermuda will be confident having defeated Puerto Rico recently.

Speaking with coach Naquita Robinson in a call this morning she stated, “The mood among the players this morning was fantastic. I'm really looking forward to the match as I'm sure the Girls are as well.”

Bermuda’s young team continued their positive performances against Puerto Rico with this 1 – 0 win, the Bermuda coaching staff will be watching closely on Friday when host Haiti take on Puerto Rico.

Bermuda started the match strongly, after defeating Puerto Rico in the first round the opponents looked to defend and try to play on the counter attack, which in the end back fired.

Nolan scored late in the first half to give Bermuda the 1 – 0 lead that they would take to the break. The second half saw the Bermuda team continue their pursuit on the Puerto Rico goal, but to no avail. Puerto Rico thought they had drawn level but the goal was disallowed due to a foul.

Bermuda was able to hang on and should grab the headlines in all out the media following this 1 – 0 win.
