Bermuda Go Down to Qatar in Mexico

The Bermuda Under 15 Boy’s National Team continued competing in the Mexico 5 Nations Tournament in Mexico City.

Bermuda’s third game against Qatar took place at the Centro de alto Rendimiento, the high performance center and home of the Mexican National teams.

The game got underway with Bermuda controlling possession from the start.

Qatar scored the game’s opening goal, with the Bermuda players looking for an offside call that never came the Qatar striker calmly scored in the 3rd minute.

Bermuda looked to level the score minutes later only to have a shot go inches over the bar, tackles started flying in hard from both sides as the game became physical.

T'ahje Smith picked up Bermuda’s first caution with a yellow card as went in late with a two footed tackle.

Bermuda had an attack broken up by Qatar defense in the 6 yard box as they went insearch of the equalizer.

Bermuda applied high pressure and were keeping Qatar in their own half. Bermuda picked up a second yellow card for late challenge outside the 18 yard box.

With the game close tempers began flaring as calls were going against Bermuda.

Bermuda’s pressure resulted in Qatar’s goalkeeper making a hurried clearance. Bermuda then won a free kick 20 yards out, but the shot sailed over the bar. At this point Bermuda was controlling possession of the game and passing the ball around nicely.

Both teams went close, but when the whistle sounded Qatar held a 1 – 0 lead.

Second half started with Bermuda substitution Kane Crichlow on for Blaiz Hall. Bermuda began pressing hard looking the equalizer. A Foul by a Qatar player outside the 18 yard box saw a Bermuda player butted in the stomach and players had a little scuffle.

Bermuda equalize through a Crichlow header from a Rahzir Jones cross. Bermuda new found belief and were chasing every ball.

Bermuda coach Ray Jones was sent from the bench by the referee.

Qatar had another promising attack foiled by the Bermuda goalkeeper, a Bermuda counter attack resulted in a corner.

Another Qatar attack flashed wide of the post, Qatar on their next attack breached the Bermuda back four and scored giving Qatar a 2-1 lead.

Bermuda continued pressing and won a free kick 20 yards out, Crichlow’s cross was met by a Brandon Jones header to equalize.

Double substitution for Bermuda saw Corey Booth and Enrique Russell come in for T'ahje Smith and Jahquari Paynter.

Qatar went back in front for a third time when a shot from 25 yards out beat the Bermuda keeper giving Qatar the 3 – 2 lead.

Bermuda brought on Santze Burgess for Edry Moore. Qatar continued pressing and won another corner. A Qatar cross in the box was dropped by the Bermuda keeper resulting in an easy tap in for the striker.

Qatar got another fast break and scored in the final minute making the final score Qatar 5 Bermuda 2.
