BFA President Releases Statement

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Football Association President Larry Mussenden confirmed reports that have already been posted on Islandstats.com. In a release President Mussenden states.

U15 Boys’ Tournament

The BFA acknowledges that CONCACAF has postponed the U15 Boy’s Tournament in order to focus on other priorities. The BFA is disappointed with the postponement especially since the boys and the coaches have trained so hard for the tournament. The previous tournaments at U15 for the boys and the girls were excellent tournaments that assisted in the development of our players. We note that in 2013 the Bermuda U15 Boys were in the semi-finals and were the best placed Caribbean Football Union team. Also, the Technical Study Group Report gave a favorable review of the Bermuda team players and coaching.

Upon receipt of the news of the postponement, the BFA immediately reached out to its colleague Football Associations to gauge interest in putting on a U15 tournament. We have had some interest already and we are set to have some further talks later this week. The plan would be to have a U15 tournament in the same time slot in a host country with possibly 8 teams in 2 groups of 4 with a round-robin, semifinal and final. Bermuda would be interested in hosting such a tournament although at this stage hosting in other countries such as the USA may be less expensive.

We are committed to establishing tournament opportunities for the U15 Boy’s and we will work to make participation and funding possible.

CFU – U20 Women’s Group Round in Dominican Republic

The BFA received notice that the CFU U20 Women’s group round consisting Bermuda, St. Kitts and Dominican Republic could not be hosted in June because of unavailability of players from one of the teams due to academic examination reasons. The group members agreed for the group round to be rescheduled to July 24th – 31st.

We are pleased that our U17 Girls’ will have participation in the U17 Group Round in Haiti for July 13th – 20th 2015. The BFA is committed to Women’s and Girl’s Football and we look forward to re-establishing the game here in Bermuda at the domestic and international levels.
