David Jones and his Mansfield Town Development Squad teammates slip to defeat against Handsworth Parramore in seven-goal thriller.
The Mansfield development squad were unable to make up any ground on league leaders Handsworth Parramore, as they slipped to a 4-3 defeat to their Sheffield-based counterparts in the H-K-L North Midlands League.
On a cold night at the Worksop Van Hire Stadium, Mansfield made the worst possible start as David Flaherty put the visitors ahead inside the opening few minutes.
Conor Green slammed home an equalizer, before Chris Spencer struck to complete a turnaround and put John Ramshaw’s team in charge by the quarter-hour mark.
Both sides played some good football in what was an entertaining spectacle for the neutral, but Handsworth went in level at the break as Matty Morton capitalized on some slack defending to rifle home on the stroke of half-time.
The visitors made it 3-2 shortly after the re-start when Ryan Lee found the target from just inside the six-yard box, before Morton pounced on the hour mark to put Handsworth into a commanding 4-2 lead.
Mansfield tried everything to get back into the game, but weren’t rewarded for their efforts until the third minute of injury-time when Jack Hutchinson let fly with a delightful 30-yard strike, which found the top corner.
Ultimately, it was too little, too late, however, as Handsworth defended well in the last couple of minutes to collect all three points.
