Casey Castle, Kiuno Cann and their University of Indianapolis (UIndy) Men's Soccer teammates opened their Great Lakes Valley Conference season, with a 1-1 draw with visiting William Jewell, in a match that went two overtimes at Key Stadium.
Indianapolis struck first, with Julian Shamsaie's first goal of the year. Jules took a ball from Ngwese Ebangwese on the far side and sent it past the William Jewell keeper. William Jewell would equalize with 27 seconds to play in the first half, on Aaron Froehlich's first goal of the year.
Neither team could score the game winner in regulation, sending the match to extra minutes. After two 10-minute overtimes, the final stood at a 1-1 draw.
Indianapolis led William Jewell 28-12 overall in shots, with Indianapolis also taking 11 corner kicks to William Jewell's three. Ebangwese and Patrick O'Brien led the Indianapolis attack with six shots each.
Andrew Verhonik made four saves in 110 minutes in the goal for Indianapolis.
