Bermuda’s Opening Game in the Third Cup of Nations Mexico 2014 took place on Court 2 Training Center, which saw them take on the Chilean Under-16 team that got the win 2 – 0 in Group D.

Bermuda Starting Line-up: Ajai Daniels, Kacy Butterfield, Jerome Bailey, Jason Symonds, Tahzeiko Harris, Azende Furbert, Jomei Bean-Lindo, Amar Lewis, Osagi Bascome, Judah Chapman, Oneko Lowe. Substitutes: Ahria Simons, Zenawi Bowen, Jomari Gooden, Lleniko Millett, Aaron Burgess, Maquille Walker, Nathan Trott

Chile took an early lead in the 26th minute when Walter Ponce found the back of the net, the lead was doubled in the 43rd minute through a Luis Salas goal.

The match started in a closed manner played from the first minute, as both team were looking do things with the ball.

The first goal came after a bad tackle by Bermuda goalkeeper Daniels, that saw the Chilean striker Ponce, react first on the rebound to score the first goal of the game for the South Americans.

Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of the half so the South American went to the break with the 1 – 0 lead.

The Second half started the same way as the first half ended with the Chilean team becoming the dominant of the ball and controlling the game.

In the 40th minute, Bermuda’s first shot at goal was by Chapman but it sailed high and wide, and then in the 43rd minute the intense domination by the South Americans paid off with the second goal of the game by Salas, who had moments earlier entered the field as a substitute.

Bermuda made changes with Simons replacing Lowe and Burgess replacing Bean-Lindo as coach Andrew Bascome, managed to counter the dominance of the Chilean team and make it more of an even match.

Daniels was replaced by Trott, after suffering a torn muscle in his leg so he's out for the remainder if the tournament. Walker then replaced Bascome as Bermuda won back to back corners.

Bailey hit a shot which the Chilean goalkeeper scrambled to save, as Bermuda continued to battle with a hard-fought match in midfield, but with no movement on the scoreboard, the Chilean team recorded the win.

Bermuda will next take on Portugal in their second match, Portugal defeated Colombia 2 – 0 in their opening match.
