During the HSBC Pro Soccer Clinic, ten young footballers participated in the Clinic’s, ‘Bridge to Success Programme’ who demonstrated leadership skills and positive attitudes were selected by the coaches to also participate in the ‘HSBC School of Excellence Programme’.

The ‘HSBC School of Excellence Programme’, is aimed at developing young people’s social skills, helping them to overcome social obstacles and empowering them to be successful.

The players chosen to participate in the Excellence Programme, engaged in intense soccer and leadership skills training focused on developing their social and sports related skills.

They met each morning and worked on their physical fitness and soccer skills, leadership skill development and learned how to correct their own weaknesses.

Each player also had to complete a project on what they perceived to be an example of success by interviewing someone who demonstrated success in their eyes.

Some of the participants interviewed their own parents, while others showcased corporate CEO’s or athletes. Each player then had to give a one minute presentation about their project at the closing of the programme.

The structure and discipline of the clinic and consistently high level of coaching have made it very popular to players at all levels.

“The support that we have received from the community and HSBC over the last 22 years has been tremendous and greatly appreciated. This year, we were very pleased to include new leadership elements for the older groups, to help provide them with the tools to become more balanced in their social and sports development.

Bascome added, “The ten participants in the School of Excellence were chosen for their leadership capabilities, and I am proud of the work that they completed throughout the week’s programme. I am confident that they will take what they learned and apply it in their future interactions with their peers, families and the community”.

HSBC Bermuda has sponsored the Pro Soccer Clinic and School of Excellence Programme since inception.

Blake Hellam, HSBC Bermuda, Head of Retail Banking and Wealth Management said, “HSBC was pleased to once again support the HSBC Pro Soccer Clinic and HSBC School of Excellence Programme.

“We believe that through sporting initiatives and programmes such as this, children learn the importance of teamwork, gain an understanding of the value of competition and experience firsthand how to apply networking and negotiating skills, while developing better focus and discipline.

“The programmes offer the participants more than just an opportunity to upgrade their football skills. It is a great platform for children to not only have fun but also to develop key leadership attributes that will later translate into positive personal and professional experiences for them and the wider Bermuda community.”
