Bermuda Win CFU U17 Opener

Bermuda faced a crowd of some 1,200 fans in their first match of the Caribbean Football Union Under 17 World Cup Qualifiers against the host Bahamas.

Bermuda Starting Line Up: Ajai Daniels, Azende Furbert, Tahzeiko Harris, Jason Symonds, Jerome Bailey, Milan Butterfield , Amar Lewis (capt), Jahkari Furbert, Osagi Bascome, Oneko Lowe, Judah chapman, Substitutes: Llneiko Millett, Ahria Simons, Macquille Walker, William Spencer, Aaron Burgess , Nathan Trott, Jomei Bean-Lindo

Bermuda opened the match attacking with Furbert overlapping down the right and sending in an early cross that was collected by the keeper under pressure from Bascome.
Eight minutes into the match Bermuda won a corner, the ball fell to the feet of Lowe who side footed over the bar. Four minutes later Champman defended well on the edge of the penalty area and slipped a pass to Bascome, who released a shot that went wide.

Bermuda continued to dominate the match as they camped in Bahamas half. The opening goal came in the 42nd minute when Bailey went on an overlapping run, with pace he skipped past his marker and scored to give Bermuda a 1 – 0 lead, a lead they would hold at the half time break.

Six minutes into the second half a rocket from 30 yards off the boot of Bailey surprises the keeper and nestles in the top near post corner as Bermuda took a 2 – 0 lead.

In the 57th minute Chapman who worked very hard defensively and offensively required attention and 2 minutes later he had to be replaced with Walker coming in.
In the 75th minute Bascome delivered a through ball to Lowe. His man was faster and should clear easily but Lowe stayed with it and won the ball in the area with the defender hauling him down resulting in a penalty for Bermuda.

Bascome stepped up and scored to the keepers left to earn Bermuda a 3 – 0 lead.

With just 12 minutes remaining Bermuda made another change with Jahkari Furbert going off replaced by Simons as Bermuda went in search of a shutout.

Bermuda was relying on long balls to target man Walker as they look to consolidate the victory, Bermuda then made their 3rd and final sub with Spencer going on in place of Azende Furbert.

In injury time Simons attacked down the right with pace skipping past 3 players, he provided a good ball to Walker who was fouled resulting in Bermuda having a free kick in a dangerous area.

Butterfield curled the ball around the wall and scored to the keepers giving Bermuda the 4 – 0 win and the start they were looking for.
