Rhode Island FC, the Ocean State’s new men’s soccer team, held tryouts at Providence Country Day School in East Providence.
The tryouts come after months of scouting by RIFC Head Coach and General Manager Khano Smith.
“When I began my role as head coach, one of my top priorities was staying true to our club’s commitment in being a team for all of Rhode Island. I can think of no better way to fulfill that promise than by providing an opportunity for local talent to showcase their skills through an open tryout in the state,” said Coach Smith.
Players who impress the coaching staff will be invited to RIFC’s Player Identification Combine later this year.
“The team we put on the pitch will be a team we can all be proud of, and it will reflect the character of our community,” Smith said.
RIFC will begin its inaugural season in March 2024 at Beirne Stadium at Bryant University.
The squad hopes to move into the Stadium at Tidewater Landing in Downtown Pawtucket when construction is completed in 2025.
