The Vasco da Gama Club announced the visit to Bermuda of Portuguese footballer Augusto Inácio. As part of his visit, he will be honored at a Fundraising Dinner on Saturday, September 30th at the Club.
All proceeds will support the Portuguese School (registered charity #385) and the Vasco Youth Program (registered charity #1010)
Inácio is a retired professional football player who played for Sporting CP of Lisbon and FC Porto. He also played for the Portuguese National team, making 25 appearances and representing Portugal at the UEFA Euro 1984 and the 1986 World Cup.
Inácio also has an extensive post-playing career as a coach in Portugal, Greece, Iran, Brazil and Romania. A highlight includes leading Sporting CP to its first title in 18 years, in 2000.
While Inácio may be retired, he does currently act as a television pundit in Portugal. He is a respected voice in Portuguese football.
Richard Ambrosio, President of Vasco Da Gama club stated, “We are pleased that Inácio will be visiting our beautiful island and helping with our fundraising efforts. He is a Portuguese football legend with an expansive career as a footballer, coach and commentator.
“We are particularly honored and humbled that he will be visiting our Club. We look forward to the opportunity for some of our young footballers to meet him and hopefully get some pointers from him.”
The Fundraising Dinner will take place on Saturday, September 30th at Vasco da Club at its Reid Street Headquarters. Doors open at 7pm with dinner expected to take place at 8pm. Tickets will be $85 for the general public for those aged 13 and older, and $60 for those 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased from the Club.
A number of other events will be taking place during his time in Bermuda, including a football tournament and a courtesy visit to the Bermuda Football Association.
