PCC Basketball Court Re-Opened

IslandStats.com
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Pembroke Community Club (PCC) to officially re-open the Basketball Court.

The Department of Youth Sport and Recreation, at the request of Minister Owen Darrell, secured the following firms Executive Iron Works, Bermuda Sign Printers, and International Sports Shop, to fabricate backboards for the Basketball Courts.

Minister Darrell said, “I am happy that the backboards are now refurbished and resurrected. Earlier this year, the Smith family, area residents, raised concerns about the state of the basketball court at the Pembroke Community Club. Tiras and Sar Smith, along with other neighborhood children, used to play here until the hoops deteriorated considerably.

“Now the courts are functional, safe, and available to anyone wanting to play basketball. I am grateful to the Director of the Department of Youth Sport and Recreation, Charryse Bean and Dr. Freddie Evans, Property Manager for the Department of Youth, Sport, and Recreation, and the Department of Parks for spearheading this project, as the quality of the courts is important for a successful recreational center.”

Minister Darrell was joined today for the ribbon-cutting ceremony by Premier and Finance Minister, David Burt, and area MP Jache Adams. Today, Middle school children attending the Eastern, Central, and Western Government Community Center’s Winter Camps participated in a basketball tournament at the PCC Center. They had the opportunity to try out the new equipment in a short game with MP Adams. The PCC outdoor Basketball Court is open to the public.”
