The upgrade work to the St John’s Field, in a joint venture involving Gorham’s, has begun.
Earlier this month the Bermuda Government, the landowners, announced at a press conference that a strip of land bordering the field and Gorham’s yard was to be used to improve access to the store.
For many years St John’s Field has been plagued with uneven grounds leading to frequent flooding, as a result, the club has experienced occasions when the field has been unusable for training, community events, or recreational activities.
One of the layers used will be recycled glass on the field, which will be obtained from the Bermuda TAG recycling program.
The crushed glass will help give the community a modern, flood-free sports field everyone can enjoy.
Club President Devarr Boyles said, “The Cricket team has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to play this season at the Sea Breeze Oval, while they will train between The Berkeley Institute Field and West Pembroke.”
